Feeling secure from the Plan of Allah!

And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing (41:36).

Feeling secure from the Plan of Allah.

Allah,Exalted be He, says:

"Then, did they feel secure from the plan of Allah? But no one feels secure from the plan of Allah except the loosing people." Al-A' raf:99

And He Says:

"He said, 'And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?'"  Al-Hijr:55

Lesson drawn from the two Qur'anic verses

  • The first verse implies an admonition against feeling secure from the plan of Allah and, further, deems it a major sin.
  • The second verse implies and admonition against despairing of the mercy of Allah and, further, deems it a major sin
  • The two verses point out that a believer is duty bound to equally combine fear and hope in worshipping Allah. Thus, one should not depend only on hope so as not to feel secure from the plan of Allah, nor should he only fear Allah till he despairs of his mercy.
  • Fear and hope are two devotional acts of the heart which a believer must purely dedicate to Allah, who has no partner.

Ibn 'Abbas(may Allah be pleased with him) said:

"The Messenger Of Allah (PBUH) was asked about the major sins so he said, '(They are) Associating others in worship with Allah,Despairing of relief from Allah, and feeling secure from the plan of Allah.'

Al-Haythami said in majmi ' Az-Zawa 'id (1/104), "This Hadith is related by Al-Bazzar and At-Tabarani,and its transmitters are judged trustworthy.

General Meaning of the Hadith

  • Firstly,to associate others in worship with Allah in His rububiyyah (Lordship) or His 'uluhiyyiah (Divinty). This sin is mentioned first as it is the most deadly sin.
  • Secondly,to despair of the mercy and relief of Allah,as it is an act of mistrust in Allah and ignorance of His great mercy that embraces all things
  • Thirdly,to feel secure from the plan of Allah;in this case the person is bestowed Allah's favours, then Allah suddenly overtakes him by pronouncing a decree of eternal damnation on him
 Lesson Drawn from the Hadith

  • It is prohibited to feel secure from Allah's plan and despair of His Mercy. These two sins are of the most deadly ones, the first of which is committed by the Al-Murji'ah1wheras the latter is committed by the Kharijites2.
  • Ascribing partners to Allah is the most deadly sin.
  • A Muslim is to be in a moderate state between fearing Allah and hoping for His mercy. He,thus, should fear Allah without despair of His Mercy, and hope in His Mercy without feeling secure from Allah's Plan.

Al-Murji'ah is an islamic sect which holds the belief that sins do not harm believers and good deeds do not benefit disbelievers. The refer the case of those who commit major sins to Allah in the Hearafter.

2 The kharijites (Al-Khawarij,ie the seceders):An islamic radical sect that broke away from the reign of 'Ali Ibn Abu Talib, the Muslim Caliph then, and murdered him.Their followers believe that the Muslim who commits a major sin is a disbeliever. They also curse and revile the Phrophet's Companions and deem the blood of Muslims violable.

The Merit of Supplying Water and Food to Animals.

Translation of Sahih Muslim, Book 026, Number 5577:
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him)as sayings: A person suffered from intense thirst while on a journey, when he found a well. He climbed down into it and drank (water)and then came out and saw a dog lolling its tongue on account of thirst and eating the moistened earth. The person said: This dog has suffered from thirst as I had suffered from it. He climbed down into the well, filled his shoe with water, then caught it in his mouth until he climbed up and made the dog drink it. So Allah appreciated this act of his and pardoned him. Then (the Companions around him)said: Allah's Messenger, is there for us a reward even for (serving)such animals? He said: Yes, there is a reward for service to every living animal.

Shall I not guide you to a treasure from the treasures of Jannah?

1443. Abu Musa(May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah(sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam)said to me, "Shall I not guide you to a treasure from the treasures of Jannah?'' I said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!'' Thereupon he (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam)said, "(Recite)`La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah'(There is no change of a condition nor power except by Allah).''  [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Commentary: In this Hadith the invocation "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah'' has been regarded a treasure of Jannah or one of the most precious stores of Jannah. The reason for its high eminence seems to be that through it, one makes a confession of his utter weakness and helplessness and attributes all power and authority to Allah, and this is very much liked by Allah. This statement is an outright admission that man has no power and if he can prevent himself from any mischief or do any good deed, it is only by the Will of Allah and His Permission.

Islam Obligates a Muslim to be Good to all his or her Neighbors.

If a men / woman is a neighbor and he / she is a Muslim, he / she is entitled to two rights: the right of Islam, and the right of a neighbor. Allah, the Exalted, states in the Qur'an:
(Worship Allah and join none with Him in worship, and do good to parents, kinfolk, orphans, the poor who beg, the neighbor who is related to you, the neighbor who is a stranger, the companion by your side, the wayfarer you meet, and those slaves whom your right hand possesses. Verily, Allah does not like anyone who is proud and boastful) [4:36]
Islam obligates a Muslim to be good to all his or her neighbors. The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon Him) said:
"Jibreel (Archangel Gabriel) continued to recommend me to take care of the neighbor so much so that I thought the neighbor was going to be made a legal heir." [Bukhari #5668]
He (Peace be upon Him) also said:
"By Allah he is not a believer, by Allah he is not a believer, by Allah he is not a believer!
They asked: "Who, O Messenger of Allah?"
He said: "The one from whose harm the neighbor is not safe." [Bukhari 5670]
